Orly - Liquid Vinyl, Too Fab & So Go-Diva

Liquid Vinyl is a black creme. It's a perfect base for the Orly Flash Glam glitters. The formula was nice, I had no problems applying it. It's almost opaque after one coat and is completely opaque after two.

Too Fab has a mix of different sized gold hex glitter in a clear base. I think it's best to wear this one over a base colour, you'd need about 5 coats to wear it on it's own. I used 3 coats over Liquid Vinyl for maximum bling! You could also wear one coat over a base colour for a different look.

When applying this I tried to wipe off most of the clear base as I could while keeping the glitter on the brush so I could apply thin layers that would dry faster.

Please excuse the white marks around my cuticles I forgot to use hand cream after using acetone to clean up  whoops!

Orly - Mermaid Tale, Can't Be Tamed & Spazmatic

Mermaid Tale has a mix of large green holo hex and smaller green hex glitter in a clear base. I'm wearing three dabbled coats over Pretty Serious - VT100. This one was the easiest of the three to build up. If you're patient you could probably wear this on on it's own after 4-5 coats. 

The formula was great and it was easy to pick up glitter on the brush. 

I put this on yesterday not realising it was St Patrick's Day, it was a nice coincidence. The holo hexes really stand out! They were distracting me at work when the sun hit my nails.

Can't be tamed has a mix of purple hex glitter and smaller silver hex glitter in a clear base.  I wore 3 dabbled coats over China Glaze - Let's Groove in the swatch above. I loved this combination! 

The formula was great, and the glitter was easy to apply. 

I don't think you can build this one up on it's own. The glitter is too sparse but it's great for layering over other colours.

Orly Spazmatic is a mix of blue hex glitter and blue to pink shifting micro flakes in a clear base. You definitely can't build this one up on its own so I layered it over China Glaze - Frostbite in the swatch above. This combination had a very icy feeling to it. 

The brush picked up a lot of the clear base so I tried to wipe as much of it off as I could without loosing the glitter from the brush. If I didn't wipe off some of the base the glitter wouldn't be as concentrated on the nail and each coat would be thick and take a long time to dry. 

It's a little hard to see the blue to pink shifting flakes in the swatch but you can see them in the macro photo.

Orly - Sapphire Luck

Orly - Sapphire Luck

Sapphire Luck is from the Year In The Rocks collection from 2004. This is a really old one! It smells like a pre-3 free formula. It has a sheer grey-blue base with blue shimmer and silver glass flecks. In the bottle it has a purple duo-chome but not so much on the nail.

The back of the bottle says "A fast drying, high gloss nail colour". Well it might have been fast drying in 2004 but it sure isn't now! This took forever to dry, you can see in the picture that it was still wet because I stuck my finger in it. Maybe we were just more patient back then?

Red and Green Christmas Mani

This is a really simple Christmas manicure. If you can paint your nails you can do this. I used two coats of China Glaze - Poinsettia for the base and one coat of Orly - Bubbly Bombshell over the top. I used Seche-Vite top coat.

I took these photos in a home made light box. I got the instructions from here. I didn't have any white material or white clothes so I just used white tissues. I think the photos turned out ok. I didn't use a daylight bulb or full spectrum bulb, I only had those energy saving swirly ones.

Only 3.5 hours left of work for this year! I'm going to attempt one last Christmas manicure this afternoon when I get home, wish me luck.

Space Cadet is from the Cosmic FX Fall 2010 Collection. It's red/orange/yellow colour shift glitter flecks in a blue/grey base. This one seemed to be the most talked about colour from the collection but I don't prefer it over Halley's Comet or Lunar Eclipse. The colour shift is more noticeable on the nail with Space Cadet. It's coming off a little purple in my pictures but I think it's just something to do with the base being blue. I just painted one of my nails to check and I'm not seeing the purple.

Lunar Eclipse is from the Cosmic FX Fall 2010 Collection. It's blue and purple colour shift glitter flakes in a blue base. You can't see the purple in the pictures above but you can see it in the macro below. This is my favourite one out of the collection, it's so pretty! I'm wearing this on my toes at the moment. I forgot to mention in the other Cosmic FX posts but did you notice that's my right hand in the pictures? I usually swatch on my left hand but I had a nail break so I used my right. Then I broke two nails on my right hand so my nails are even shorter! I hope you don't mind looking at my stubs for a while in future posts.

Orly - Out Of This World

I was about to go to sleep last night and I realised I hadn't scheduled a post for today. It was too late for me to post last night so I'm writing this one on the train to work. I did a Christmas nail art last night for my work Christmas party today. I took some photos last night but I'm not sure if they are any good. I'm still learning the best settings to use for nail photos, if you have any tips feel free to let me know.

I got some exciting nail mail yesterday! If I get home early after the Christmas party and if it's still sunny I will try to swatch some of them.

Out of this world is from the Cosmic FX Fall 2010 Collection. It's a purple and orange colour shift glitter flecks in a blue/black purple toned base. The black base really comes out in the sun. The macro shot below shows the colour shift the best. Sometimes the glitter looks a bit pink. You can see that in the bottle picture above. I think this was actually the first one from this collection I wore.

Halley's Comet is from the Cosmic FX Fall 2010 Collection. It is green and gold glitter flecks in an aqua base. It looks blue in my pictures but I'm wearing it at the moment and in this light it looks very green. I'm wearing it inside at night so I don't trust this light to show to right colour. The gold glitter makes it look like there is some light green in the bottle too but I don't think there actually is. This is very pretty, I like this one a lot. Macro shot below.

Galaxy Girl is from the Cosmic FX Collection Fall 2010. Galaxy Girl is green glitter flakes in a bruise coloured purple base. I like this one but it's not one of my favourites from the collection because of the base colour, it just reminds me of bruises. I forgot to mention yesterday that these are a little difficult to remove because of the glitter flakes. You might notice I have glitter specks on my cuticles from swatching. Sorry about the messy cuticle on my middle finger, it sort of looks like it's bleeding, whoops!

It's Not Rocket Science is from the Orly Fall 2010 Collection. It's green glitter flakes in a murky yellow base. The glitter changes from light yellow green to dark green. This is my least favourite from the collection. I still think it's pretty but it's an ugly pretty. The glitter is the only thing that saves it for me. I've bought a new macro lens for my camera, look at the picture below! You can really see the flakes. You'll be seeing a lot more macro shots like this.

Bubbly Bombshell is from the Pin Up Collection - Summer 2011. It is a large purple hex glitter with small purple and silver glitter in a clear base. This also needs a few coats of top coat to smooth it out. It looks kind of duo-chrome in the bottle but I didn't notice it on the nail. Here Comes Trouble is from the Pin Up Collection - Summer 2011. It is a large green hex glitter with smaller round green glitter in a yellowy green base. I'm not sure what the red speck in the close up shot below is. Your going to need a few coats of top coat with this to smooth it out. It wasn't any harder than normal glitter to remove.
