Please note I am not a professional and what I do is probably not the correct method for looking after your cuticles.
I received a request to do a cuticle maintenance post, I don't necessarily have a routine when it comes to cuticle maintenance but there are I few things I try to do regularly.
Trim Hang Nails
If I start to get a hang nail or dry skin around my cuticles I like to get rid of it using this tool as soon as possible. If I leave it for too long I tend to pick at it and make it worse. I'm not sure the correct name for this tool but I like to use this one because it makes a clean cut and can get in really close to the nail. I got this from Priceline in a manicure tools kit.
Use Cuticle Remover
If I have a lot of dry skin on my cuticles I'll use a cuticle remover to get rid of it. At the moment I'm using Sally Hansen Problem Cuticle Remover. I got this from Priceline.
Apply Cuticle Cream
This is something I do multiple times each day. It helps to keep creams in different places around the house. I've got some on my desk at work, in my hand bag, next to my bed and at my nail station. If I'm at work I'll apply it every 1 to 2 hours. If I'm at home I don't tend to apply it as often. Maybe only once or twice per day.
I don't just slap it on quickly I spend some time rubbing it into my cuticles, it helps to improve circulation and stimulate nail growth. I use a variety of creams and not necessarily ones intended to be hand creams.
These are the products I'm using at the moment:
Vaseline Treatment Hand Cream
Redwin Sorbolene Moisturiser with Vitamin E
Palmers Cocoa Butter with Vitamin E
When I swatch nail polish I'm constantly using acetone on my nails so I apply a light amount of cream before I take the photo to cover up any dryness.
Again, I am not a professional and what I do is probably not the correct method for looking after your cuticles. Feel free to tell me that I'm doing it all wrong but I'll probably keep using this method because it works for me.
