Artsy Wednesday: Ruffian

The theme for Artsy Wednesday this week is Ruffian!

A ruffian manicure uses two different coloured polishes to create a half moon at the base of the nail. Start by painting your whole nail with one colour, this will be the colour of the half moon. I chose Essie - Trophy Wife for my base. Then paint 3/4 of your nail with the second colour leaving a half moon shaped gap at the base of your nail. I chose China Glaze - Smoke and Ashes for the top colour.

This was my first attempt at a ruffian manicure. If you are going to do this freehand you should practise getting a neat base curve first. You can also do this using tape or french tip guides upside-down.

    1. It was sort of an accident that I used Trophy Wife. I was already wearing it and I thought Smoke and Ashes might look nice with it. :)

  5. I love this! I love the colors you used and I'd have to say it's one of the few Ruffian manis that I actually like! So many of them look weird and awkward. I just love yours =]
